Wondering if I should increase dosage…maybe just take it twice a day…
Did some more research on DE, someone said combining it with activated charcoal helps your body eliminate toxins more efficiently
08.17.16 @7ish am – took approximately .5 tsp., I say approximately because I left the house in a hurry and used a regular spoon to measure the amount.
Honestly, it was probably a bit more because now that I think about it I used more water than yesterday but it was a bit chalkier. The taste however was fine.
I feel like I was in a better mood this morning after I drank the DE. I’m not really a morning person and getting a phone call that my husband’s vehicle broke down wasn’t the ideal way to start my day but oddly enough my mood was great.
Kind of weird considering that last night I worked late, am lucky if I got close to 5 hours of sleep, then worked a morning shift without breakfast. All I had was some ACV water until about 1:30pm or so. I thought I would’ve been tired or at least out of it but I felt fine.
ACV usually gives me the energy I need to get things done when its early and I’m not ready for breakfast so not sure if it was the ACV or the combination of that with the DE that carried me through the day.
When I got home I took a nap, felt better after about 3o minutes (but stayed in bed and fell back asleep because I enjoy sleep – don’t judge me).
My hair feels unusually soft and I think my teeth look a bit whiter but it’s too subtle to rule out the placebo effect.
My joints don’t feel any better but aren’t any worse. I wanted to take DE on its own for a while to observe the effects but I’ve got a rough weekend ahead of me if I don’t do something about my joints now.
So this while researching DE I can across a youtube.er that talked about her experience with DE and how it was affecting her body. She mentioned BMs a lot, just being more regular in general (I don’t really have issues with regularity) and how she noticed mucous and other stuff in her stool…well, it’s a thing…and that’s all I’m going to say about that.
08.18.16 – 8 am
Woke up feeling okay, took .5 tsp, feeling tired now and it’s only 9:30 am…
I took maca and ashwagandha yesterday, today my right hand feels a lot better, yesterday it hurt to touch.
I’m going to take some more today. Ideally, I want to get to a point where I don’t have to take anything on a daily basis but for now my focus is cleaning my body. I think my joints will improve as a result.
Now knowing that I have parasites in me makes me feel gross. I guess I’ve always heard that humans can and do but it’s still rather shocking to see proof.
10:15 am – I made myself some clove tea with honey. The taste was tolerable, I was expecting worse. What I wasn’t expecting was the strange sensation it left in my mouth, somewhat numbing?? Not really sure how to describe it.
11:49 am – I am in the worse fucking mood right now. I’m angry and in full on bitch mode. I’m hoping it’s just a detox effect. It happened similar when I did a juice cleanse, I was very irritable the second day. We’ll see how it goes. I’m honestly not sure if it’s the DE or what (and no I’m not PMSing).
08.19.16 @ 10am
Last night, as I last in bed I had my hand on my tummy and it felt different. Lighter, like something was gone. They say emotions get stored in the body and for the first time in a long time I thought about something that had plagued me for years, I’m not going to say what it was but for the first time in ever I was able to hold these memories in a different light, I was able to accept what happened and even felt a sense of fondness in recalling some of the memories.
Today I woke up feeling great. I upped my dosage to 1 full tsp. I originally intended to wait a week but I feel like my body is ready for more. Last night, I also took about 1 tablespoon of chia seeds in water (soaked all day). I plan on continuing the chia seeds.
I started taking DE to detox but after more research and the way my body is reacting I feel like I need to shift my goal towards an anti-parasitic cleanse.
So no big changes noted today. I had a cheese pizza we made at home but my body was not too happy about it. I felt bloated afterwards but I also drank a lot of water before and after my two slices of pizza so could have been that. Nothing bad happened physically I just felt kinda ick afterwards and regretted eating it.
Maca and ashwagandha together definitely make me sleepy so I’m going to start taking them at night. Turns out both have anti-parasitic properties which is nice because right now that is my focus. Also, had since chia seeds.
08.21.16 @ 10:00am – 1 tsp of DE
Yesterday I was pretty much non-stop from 6:30 am to almost 2 am. I didn’t really start to feel tired or mentally foggy until about 10 or 11 pm. What was special about yesterday was that I didn’t feel the urge to take a nap. Even when I had the opportunity to do so I did something else instead. That’s a big deal for me because normally I take a nap any chance I get. I wouldn’t label myself with chronic fatigue but a lot of the times I feel the need to sleep. Like my body and brain cannot process anything else and I just need to sleep. I feel that it is the result of some sort of physiological imbalance. I think this because when I take certain supplements the tiredness lessens or if I’m lucky goes away all together.
Today I feel…blah, not tired just…unmotivated.
August 22nd – dose 1 tsp.
So yesterday I worked from about 7pm to 2 am so this morning I decided to sleep in. I felt fine when I woke up. Now it’s 5:30 pm and I have a headache, I haven’t been drinking much water so I’m guessing that might be a factor. Which reminds me, the other night I had PDQ and shortly afterwards I got a strange headache, right between my eyes. I’ve never experienced pain there before. It was odd but didn’t last that long.
My husband is on day 3 today and he’s already seeing some changes in his body.
Aug. 23rd – 1 tsp.
- Nothing new today, worked late last night (2am). Decided to start maca and ashwagandha again (I did it for 2 days then stopped bc I wanted to observe my body on the DE alone).
- I’ve noticed I’ve been peeing a lot more today and yesterday actually. I have increased my water intake bc I was getting headaches so I’m sure some of it is because of that but still seems a like more than I’d expect.
- Did the maca and ashwagandha after dinner because the past couple times it made me sleepy so I didn’t want to do it during the day. I’m feeling okay now. Not as tired as I had hoped but oh well.
Wow, I had seriously thought that only 2 days had past since I last blogged, how the fuck did 4 days go by so fast?
Anyway, I’ve been taking 1 tsp. daily in the morning. Probably the biggest change I’ve noticed is a change in my food selection. I don’t crave sweets as much, if at all and when I do eat them I don’t eat as much as I normally would. I’m less tired over all even though I’m doing more now than I was before. I don’t wake up sore in the mornings but that could be because I’ve been sleeping on a different mattress.
The only kind of meat I’ve eaten for the past 2 weeks is chicken. So far I’m okay and don’t miss beef or pork.
I ate PDQ the other day and it gave me a headache, right between the eyes. It was strange but went away on its own.
I haven’t been able to eat pizza either. Last time I did I don’t think I finished it.
And I started working out again so we’ll see how that goes.
Aug. 30th – 2 tsp.
So as of yesterday I upped my dose to 2 tsp. I did this because I felt my body was well adjusted to 1 tsp.
So the past few times I’ve eaten chicken have been not that great. Similar to the pizza, it went from lackluster, to unappetizing to this makes my stomach hurt.
At this stage I feel like it’s time to start supplementing so I’m going to do some research to see what I need.
My hair is definitely healthier and I’m not as tired even though I’m doing more.
I’m enjoying the change in palette
September 2 – 1.5 tsp
So after a few days at 2 tsp. I knocked the dose down to 1.5 tsp because it was making me sleepy.
I’m feeling good overall, no real change as far as joints go but nothing has gotten worse. I’ve cut back significantly on my animal product intake and I’m happy about that, not really ready to go vegan or full vegetarian but I’m enjoying the change. No red meat, not missing it, I tried a piece of pork sausage because it smelled good but I ended up spitting it out because I just didn’t want it. Only a couple days left until I reach my goal of 21 days on D.E.
Sept. 4th – 21 days. 1.5 tsp
So the 4th was 21 days on DE. Overall, I think the whole thing was a positive experience, I feel that my body did benefit from is cleansing and detoxifying effects. It helped me sustain my goal of eating less meat which historically had always been difficult.
I’m glad I did this and have no regrets. I don’t think that it’s something that I will continue to use on a daily basis. Most likely I’ll just repeat the 21 day cycle a few times a year or whenever I feel like I need a good detox.

It’s been over a month since I did my first 21 day DE cycle and I can say that the extreme tiredness and fatigue that I used to feel has not returned. For me it is a huge deal because I felt like so much of my life was wasted or unproductive because I was physically too tired way too often. I don’t feel that way anymore, and I never really ever feel like I have to take a nap.
I’m not planning on doing another 21 day cycle anytime soon but I do still take DE for detoxing which I tend to do for a week or so whenever I feel like my body can use it. I keep the dose at 1 tsp. for these occasions.
Some notes: Start with a small dose and work your way up, taking too much too soon may cause you to be tired or have adverse affects. Listen to your body. Drink lots of water, this stuff helps clean up your system and it needs water to do so, so stay hydrated otherwise. Dehydration can cause headaches.
